justwrite 22 august

i'd like to finish this book before the cook burns the stove
the cloverleaf pattern is too green for tomorrow
and the eggplants keep growing into chickens
clicking tattered heels into cartwheels no place like homecoming
frowning at repeated gerunds
comparing tense shifts with time rifts
i ate dinner backward into the fall
calling all superfresh grocery stores your order is ready
your carts are piled up by four horses
coursing through the vain trains preening their sleeper cars
sing me your guitar and i will call your bluff beautiful
i sing the mimic eclectic
i talk too much
i wait until the lights go out to speak my doubts
by the suntime there are thirty more reasons to wonder
plunder my alarms and snooze them boldly with icy fingers
cling to troubled palms swaying their romantic branches
sticky with sweat and letting go
molding the walls into real chair bumpers
the bees spending their knees on pollen and lollipops again
wait until the shepherd has his pie and then try again
a scanty scannery row plows houses up and over the hedges
i asked you to wait
you remembered the dishwasher someone else asked for
it wasn't me
i was the one who wanted the marble washcloth
i was the one who faced the day with a muddy nose
i write differently with line breaks
the space does something to the words
now i am writing about what i am writing
now this is a circle with an end
