scallopine ocean edges dredge up memories a glimmery plow and now i seem to seek to see cape may but all that comes to mind are the pictures that i find occasionally tucked behind others a child and the ocean piers appear the occasional find on sand i am aware of a strand of jellyfish bites or stings that bring back a thought of some probable pain and a following fear or possibly the fear of imagined pain while the stain on my mind from the pain left behind could be real or imaginary a toothy fairy of pretend design defining all the differences as the same but stepping back from the game of sounds i've found another round of images the bigger to begin with the chocolate in a box the marble worth marveling at the hat a clear plastic lid grown big and bigger as it lingers out of focus some hocus pocus delivers t-shirts from the rusty nail a new one each year the coldest beer in cape may proclaimed by an absurd bird with a tetanus shot in hand landing in this hand by command of fred the friend the mustached lawyer drawing close to our family on his way and the high school past in halloween parades clasped between hands and hugs my father's extra brother and smothered in truth this seems like a spoof of someone else's story no escape to the glory of language just a capful of memory dropped into the spin cycle
